Slowdown.

"...when the day is through
All you got to do is slowdown..."
[Morcheeba - Slowdown]

I've been living particularly fast in the the last 48 hours:
- A wireless protocol started.
- A presentation about Xen created.
- A report for the Middleware course written.
- A new draft for my final dissertation done.
- A new php system to manage the corporate DNSes developed.
- A new API to manage webhosting in the company.
- Some modification to a CRM system done.
- Two new linux servers installed.
- Some developments with Vmware esx done.
- Laundry, shopping, cleaning and a few pints...
...but among all this things I missed the most important one, I can't be satisfied.

Anyway, from tomorrow till Tuesday I'll be with Ni, Matt and Lauren somewhere between Milan, Varese and Venice, to show them the infinite beauty of that Country.

A minute of silence for Why, that became a victim of the strict Irish immigration laws and had to abort this trip at the last minute.

ps: I love the The IT Crowd series on Channel4!
I invite everyone to watch the episodes in streaming on Google Video:

E ci ritroveranno
le persone che
non pensavamo di trovare
qui con te,
nella luce che ora c'è.
[Enrico Ruggeri - Il Giudizio Universale]

Tonight I had half an hour for myself, to surf the web in peace.
I'd like to share the browser history:

1) I've read the answers of Ryanair to this show I saw last week on Channel4. They had placed some hidden cameras on Ryanair planes and filmed the crew for months. They shown things like a plane flying with a broken door because 'there was no time to fix it', or a pilot speaking about the treatment received by the company, an hostess saying 'if you pay a penny for a flight you can't expect that I'll check the lifejackets before the takeoff'

2) I've listened and laugh about this interview (link in italian only, sorry) on the italian state radio of Adso about 'netgaming'. With the usual silly questions like "are you a nerd without hope"?

3) I've seen this ironic news and his blog. In a few days a friend of mine will open a similar website.

4) I've learned about the world's oldest Carnival of Venice, since next Monday I'll probably be there.

5) I've published the pictures of the last weekend in the "slides" section of the blog, you can see them by clicking here: ToTheWest .

Pictures...

In this weekend i don't know how but i ended up in the west coast...
I don't have time to write and tell everything, but here some pictures, experiments of my konika-minolta. I will upload more in the "slides" section as soon as possible.

Comments are welcome :)

Figures.

"How long to sing this song?"
[U2 - 40]

Day 14, month 2.
Year 2006.
4 exams.
1 hundred pages to write.
6 plane tickets already scheduled.
5 dot 5 diopters.
25 gigabytes of mp3.

I've decided and planned.
The 31st of May I'll be 25.
1 hundred 7 days more.

It will be also my last day in Ireland, from the 1st of June I'll be living in Italy to fix a couple of things, learn paragliding and prepare the next adventure, that hopefully is not too far away.

Tregue.

(sorry, today I'll write in Italian only...)

"Se possiamo avere la pace per 16 giorni,
forse possiamo averla per sempre..."

[The Olympic Truce: olympictruce.org]

Per me è paradossale.
Pensare a tre anni fa.

"

Sospensione didattica olimpica?
Praticamente la tregua olimpica degli universitari...

If I were him, I'd stay in Madagascar.

Just a note for Pedala: look what I just found on a dictionary...

An english translation for "sòla" could be useful for you in the next WCG :)

10 February 2006

It's a matter of books.

"No new ideas in the house
and every book has been read..."

[U2 - Acrobat]

Three books for me tonight.
Which one should I read? It's just a matter of depth-of-field.

First. A thousand pages with everything about the the implementation of the IP, TCP, UDP and RTP stacks in the linux kernel. This book it's some sort of "bible for nerds"...

Second. A new calvin&hobbes book appeared in my room! Yuhuuu! Since I don't remember who gave it to me, I think I'll keep it forever... :)

Third. Tomorrow I'll borrow this from the library. It's time to start planning the trip of next summer. Isn't it, Giucas?

07 February 2006

Echos.

I found a place where they could hear me when I sing...
[Josh Ritter - Wings]

...but that place is definitely not Vicar Street.
I've never been at a concert with such an horrible audience.
No one singing.
No one.
People chatting, bubbling, thinking to be the funniest in the world.

Zero feedback at all to the band, no waving of hands or lighters, no chorus.
An acoustic far from being perfect.

Despite these details the Frames were great as expected, even with a non-conventional tracklist filled with many unknown songs and covers. Many of those were really a surprise.

Some sounds are still in my earwax.
Some lyrics in my head.
Some echos still going back and forth.
Like these.

*
You're giving me wings.
So I don't have to jump.
And you're giving me will.
So I can carry on.
*
You were the one who always said
'Forget it and move on'.
*
One day we will know
In a bowing of heads and a passing of hands.
*
Will you be my anchor
When there is no-one around to hold me down.

The photo of today? It's the picture I put on my door :)

Four boiled eggs.

"Soon our work is done,
All of us one by one.
Still we live our lives,
As if all this stuff survives..."
[Mattafix - Big city life]

When I first read this article from the Sunday Indipendent of last week (Page1 - Page2) I thought "how can Irish people joke about food?".

That soup is delicious. Indeed.
It's even better than the Japanese seaweed soup by Wagamama. And if you dip in some polski bread you could go on eating that stuff forever.

In that case, ask some polish friends to bring their mums home-made vodka and to prepare that recipe identical to our Casseüla.

If you don't have any polish friend yet, just go outside and grab some, there are 80k polski people in Dublin.

But please, don't tell anything to Irish journalists :)

I hate Mondays...

...but not the next one, since we got these tickets!!

Première

"...no more lightning, no more tungsten. No more radium, no more fuselage..."
[Surface Tension - Cobweb Theory]

Everyone knows that, in general, I don't like watching movies.
In my life I've been in a cinema only 4 times in total.
Because of this, it's quite simple for me to list all the movies I've seen in the last 12 months:

I wrote this post mainly for Bacco and Ilda, IMDB is nothing compared to their Knowledge :)

The picture of today is taken behind the scenes of "Sunday", the short movie that some friends of mine and I shot last year as a project for the Video Production exam. I was the "dolly operator", as you can see :)

  • Tra il dire e il fare c'è di mezzo il mare!
Ancient Italian proverb, which literal translation is Between doing and saying lies the sea. It means something like Easier said than done.
